Found lying on the hot ground tangled in a spider’s web so that it could not move,lay dying a fragile hummingbird. After the web was carefully pulled off the bird, it happpily flew away!
In an amazing act of valor, the Los Angeles Fire Department air rescue unit rescued a dog from the raging waters of the Los Angeles river after days of torrential downpours that have caused the evacuations of several local communities. Captured live on local and national news stations (KTLA Channel 5 in this case), a rescue hero repelled from a helicopter, wrestled the frightened German Sherpard into a harness in which he was airlifted out of the river and onto the roadway. In an act of further compassion, the firefighters then placed the cold, wet and frightened dog into their paramedic truck to be taken to safety. These are our heroes, folks. As one who has New York Fire Department family members, as well as volunteer fire fighters in several areas of New York State – including a Chief – I’ve spent my lifetime being in awe of these great heroes. And as an animal lover I’m even more in awe today. Thanks guys for a job well done!!
Baby animals always draw a crowd! Tiger and lion cubs are often exhibited in malls and parking lots by people who breed and exploit these animals to make money… The cubs are torn from their mothers soon after birth and are used as photo props and in petting booths for the paying public. Most of the dogs sold in pet stores and over the Internet come from puppy mills — mass breeding operations where hundreds of dogs are kept in overcrowded and often unsanitary conditions without proper veterinary care, food, water or human interaction. Watch this video to find out how miserable life is for a puppy mill dog. For two weeks in August 2009, United Animal Nations (UAN) deployed 34 volunteers with its Emergency Animal Rescue Service (EARS) to remove approximately 550 dogs from a puppy mill and care for them at a temporary shelter. The dogs were found living in filthy conditions and exposed to harsh elements year round. Many were severely matted and suffering from chronic infected wounds, internal and external parasites, and serious skin and eye infections.
