Meet Shelby – a little poodle/eskimo mix. She just went into her new foster home and she is doing so very well. She is very sweet and affectionate. Just a little bit afraid – but she is getting comfortable in her new foster environment. she apparently has never seen stairs before but she’s learning what they are for! She is doing great with the other dogs she is living with and doing well with her housebreaking. If you’re interested in Shelby, please email Sue at ssuejames@gmail.com and tell Sue the type of home you can provide for this little girl. Sue’s number is 408-202-6708
Farm Sanctuary works to end cruelty to farm animals and promotes compassionate living through rescue, education and advocacy. We envision a world where the violence that animal agriculture inflicts upon people, animals and the environment has ended, and where instead we exercise values of compassion. April 28, 2009- Working in cooperation with the Phelps County Sheriffs Department, the Humane Society of Missouri Animal Cruelty Task Force rescued 68 dogs living in filthy conditions on the site of an unlicensed, substandard dog breeding facility outside Rolla, Missouri. The Phelps County Sheriffs Department issued a warrant that was served to remove the animals today. Because this facility is believed to be unlicensed, the Humane Society of Missouri also notified the Missouri Department of Agriculture as part of their Operation Bark Alert program. The animals are Miniature Schnauzers, Poodles, Pekinese, Cocker Spaniels, Beagles and Yorkshire Terriers. The animals kennels were observed to be caked with feces and urine. A number of the dogs appeared in need of veterinary and grooming care. The animals were housed in too few cages for their number and had limited access to solid footing as the cages had wire floors which can cause paw and leg problems. Several new-born puppies and a mother were in a wire-bottom cage with no bedding or solid flooring available. The rescued dogs were taken to the Humane Societys Headquarters on Macklind Avenue in St. Louis for triage. The animals will remain in the custody of the Humane Society of Missouri until the disposition hearing scheduled for May 7 in Phelps County.
Please post and share this fun video, which shows Ellen and Portia Turkey coming home from the slaughterhouse, getting a bath and blow-dry, and enjoying life. It includes a brief harsh segment to remind us of the other 60 million turkeys but its basically fun nature should make it perfect to share with family and friends. Thanks to Brian Vandenberg for shooting the scenes and doing preliminary edits and to Kevin Morrison for putting this little clip together, to Alison Gianotto of pet-abuse.com for being awesome with all the web stuff, and to Evolotus publicity for getting the word out there.
